  • Theatre Lighting Design
  • Theatre Set Design
  • Costume Design (Play or Musical)
  • Production for Children and Young Audiences (0-12 and 13-17 including set works)
  • Performance in Production for Children and Young Audiences (0-12 and 13-17 including set works)
  • Performance by a Newcomer/Breakthrough: Male/Female (Brett Goldin trophy)
  • Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role/Cameo (Play or Musical)
  • Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role/Cameo (Play or Musical)
  • Supporting Male in a Musical
  • Supporting Female in a Musical
  • Solo Performance (Male/Female)
  • Musical Direction
  • Musical Score/Arrangements
  • Original Choreography/Movement (Play, Musical or revue)
  • Cutting Edge Production
  • Ensemble Production

Criteria for Judging and Eligibility:


  • The Naledi Theatre Awards is open to all Professional Theatre Productions staged at a mainstream venue in Gauteng as well as Fringe theatres and some Festivals (e.g. 969, SoSolo, RedFest, on condition criteria are met).
  • Naledi recognizes professional South African Artistes, Producers and Creators.
  • Overseas Directors, designers and actors are also eligible if the creative work is done in SA.
  • No Student Productions are eligible whether they utilize certain professionals or not.

Her summary reflects the views and input of Naledi Directors, judges, and other interested parties in Theatre and the Media. She invites comment and debate to advance the cause Naledi represents - to recognize theatrical excellence and promote and motivate theatrical endeavour.
